Dance with a Stranger is a Norwegian
Rock quartet from Kristainsund founded in 1983. The
band had their breakthrough in 1988 performing “Everyone
Needs a Friend” at the Norwegian Grammy Award
show; Spellemannsprisen. The band received an award
at the same show the year after for this song, a song
that still is regarded one of the all time biggest Norwegian
hits. When Dance With A Stranger disbanded
in 1994, they had sold more albums than any other recording
artist in the history of recorded music in Norway. DWAS's
second album sold an amazing 260,000 copies in a country
of 4 million people earning the band a Double Diamond
record. The band also released albums in Germany, Sweden
and the USA.
In the years following their disbanding,
they held a few reunion concerts that, due to the enormous
audience response, led to their reforming in 2007. They
subsequently released a compilation CD with 4 new songs
and hit the road with over 50 sold out concerts in Norway.
In 2008, Dance With a Stranger continued
to entertain audiences all over Norway. In the coming
year, Dance With A Stranger will continue
to perform together as well as its members pursuing
solo projects (some of them involving band members).
In addition to the core quartet,
Dance With a Stranger also performs
supplemented by keysboards, back-up singers and horns.
